Food as a medicine took origin from Hippocrates studious, even if he was convinced that a truly human life was not just a passive consumption, but the products yielded by nature have to be improved, refined and balanced.

The ancient Greek morale of temperance, directed towards the “right measure” is well expressed by the word askesis, carrying the original sense of exercise.
